Masuda in Afghanistan
I had the opportunity to go to Afghanistan with the help of V-day and Afghans for Civil Society. V-day, (www.vday.org) an organization founded by Eve Ensler to end violence around the world, organized an Afghan women's conference in Kabul bringing together women’s NGOS and women in the Afghan government. It was a phenomenal conference, and WAW will build on the findings of that conference as we plan our own in Afghanistan.

I also traveled to Kandahar, where I stayed with Afghans for Civil Society (ACS) (www.afghansforcivilsociety.org). ACS has a number of projects in Kandahar, as well as a women’s program that included traditional Kandahari embroidery by women in their homes. WAW is in the planning stages of a conference to be organized on women and the constitution. The conference will take place in Kandahar, with the help of our local partner, ACS.

Masuda with the women of Kandahar, and Sarah Chayes (wearing a green scarf) of Afghans for Civil Society. Sarah traveled to Kabul with these women to attend the V-day conference. WAW will be working with these women in our next conference.
Many thanks to the great people in both organizations for their help!
