Mother's Day was wonderful. I really think all the mothers enjoyed it.  The program started with reciting of Quran. Then, kids were gathered to say something to their mothers, they were adorable. Also, there were brief speeches on the:

1. history of Mother's Day
2. an essay about mothers
3. great mothers in Afghan history
4. another speech about mothers, by one of the
    attendees

All these speeches were presented to the Afghan mothers in their native languages: Farsi/Dari and Pashto, which made them feel very comfortable.  Masuda and Manizha, WAW's staff, introduced themselves and talked about the purpose of WAW's Mother's Day event. They also introduced and encouraged women to attend WAW's Community Outreach. The contest for "Celebrating Afghan Mothers" was announced. A call for clothes drive and school supplies was announced.  There was lunch and then music. The national dance, atan, was performed. I was totally amazed to see all the mothers get up and dance.  They looked like they were having a blast.  Raffle tickets were sold thru the entire event, so at the end of the event the winners were annouced. The first prize that was given out was a DVD player.  The overall program was FUN!!!
