Christiane Amanpour speaking to camera in front of a world map

Christiane Amanpour, CNN’s Chief International Anchor, recorded this message for Women for Afghan Women’s 25th anniversary ahead of the 2026 HER Gala in Brooklyn on October 22.

“This work is deeply personal. It’s a child finding stability and a chance to learn. It’s a woman finding support and a path forward. It’s a family receiving essential supplies when a disaster turns their life upside down.”

Hello everyone, it’s Christiane Amanpour from London, and this year Women for Afghan Women celebrates its 25th anniversary. I’ve known about this organization for years and I’ve admired its commitment to provide life-saving services for women and girls in Afghanistan.

Today Afghan women and girls live in a society that affords them little to no rights or freedoms. Women for Afghan Women continues to respond by providing mental health support, vocational training and humanitarian aid. They continue to operate a children’s support center which provides a place to call home, education, health care and hope to children of incarcerated mothers.

This work is deeply personal. It’s a child finding stability and a chance to learn. It’s a woman finding support and a path forward. It’s a family receiving essential supplies when a disaster turns their life upside down. So I’m honored to recognize this organization and its dedicated staff who continue to show up when that support is needed most.

Congratulations on 25 years of service, resilience and impact, and keep going for another 25 years.
