Hadisa is just eight years old and has already faced more hardships than most experience in a lifetime. Born into a family struggling with immense difficulties, she and her siblings were separated due to circumstances beyond their control. Her father, who is blind, could not care for his children while her mother was incarcerated in Jowzjan Province, Afghanistan. Her older sister is married, and her brothers live with their aunt and grandmother. She lived with her mother in prison until she was brought to the Women for Afghan Women’s Children’s Support Center in the Balkh Province.
A Difficult Start and a Long Road to Healing
When she arrived, she had never been to school and did not speak Dari or read or write local languages. Her emotional and mental state was deeply affected by her past experiences. However, with the guidance and support of psychologists at the center, she gradually began to heal. Through accelerated learning programs, Hadisa discovered a love for education and quickly picked up reading and writing. She even developed an interest in learning English.
Blossoming in a Safe and Nurturing Environment
Today she is blossoming in a safe and nurturing environment where she receives the gifts of education, proper care, including shelter, food, and medical support, accommodation, health facilities and emotional support. She is known for her intelligence, calm demeanor, and respect toward the staff. She prays five times a day and takes pride in keeping her room clean, often assisting the cleaners at the end of each week.
A Future Fueled by Hope and Resilience
Grateful for the opportunities given to her, Hadisa expresses her happiness at being in the center, describing it as “a place that feels like family.” She appreciates the food, education, clothes, lovely environment, entertainment, and recreational activities provided in the center. In the future, she aspires to become a successful teacher, hoping to serve the people of her country.
