For nearly nine years, Zara and her husband lived separated by borders, delays, and countless setbacks, waiting for a reunion that seemed almost impossible. Her U.S. citizen husband filed a petition for her back in 2016, but it lingered in limbo until 2021. When we submitted her immigrant visa application that year, the case stalled again. Over the years, our legal team submitted more than twenty inquiries to the National Visa Center, and we reached out to every New York Senator and House Representative to help move the case forward.
The situation was further complicated by lost correspondence due to multiple address and email changes. Meanwhile, Zara’s husband’s health deteriorated, and he became hospitalized full-time, making their reunion even more urgent. In early 2025, under the guidance of our Senior Immigration Attorney, Sanam, we discovered that Zara’s interview had actually been scheduled in 2023, but the family never received notice. After working with the U.S. Embassy to reschedule the interview, Zara was finally issued her immigrant visa and able to enter the United States.
Even after her arrival, there was one final hurdle: her green card had been mistakenly sent to her first attorney in California. Our paralegal, Waqar, tracked it down and was able to personally deliver it to Zara while she was visiting the New York Community Center.
After nearly a decade of delays and uncertainty, Zara is now living in the U.S. with her husband as a lawful permanent resident. Her journey is a powerful testament to her resilience and the unwavering dedication of our team in overcoming every obstacle to bring this family together.
